Brothers in arms!
21 years have passed since the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, and the state has not created any legislative conditions to ensure the right of Ukrainian citizens to self-defense.
Instead, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with its illegal police instructions, determines for us the rights, freedoms and legal regime of ownership of weapons. They demand to obtain “weapons permits” without any legal grounds. It is terrible that with our tacit consent they can do it for the next 20 or 30 years.
All these years, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been writing off tens of millions of hryvnias annually to finance the illegal licensing system and has created a bribery scheme to award short-barreled rifled firearms to financially capable persons.
This state of affairs humiliates law-abiding citizens of Ukraine. We must take more active steps to protect our rights and the rule of law in general.
Protest against lawlessness is the basis of democracy!
According to Art. 19 of the Constitution of Ukraine, no one can be forced to do what is not directly provided by law. We have a duty to strictly adhere only to the Constitution and laws. Other acts are considered binding if they strictly comply with the Constitution.
Therefore, we urge you not to extend the MIA permit for our firearms until our right to own and use means of self-defense is enshrined in law.
This is not only a protest against lawlessness, but more a matter of dignity. Our right to self-defense is guaranteed by the Constitution, and the establishment and protection of human rights and freedoms is the main duty of the state.
